Heads Up For Tails Franchise India 2027: Cost & Investment

If you've searched for a Heads Up For Tails franchise, you've probably found five different investment figures on five different websites. One says ₹12 lakh. Another says ₹45 lakh and up. They can't all be right.
This guide sorts what's reported from what's confirmed, looks at the pet-care market the brand sits in, and gives you a way to test any number before you put money down.
The short answer
- What it's reported to cost: Third-party sites put a HUFT store at roughly ₹30 lakh to ₹67 lakh all-in, depending on what they count (fee, deposit, fit-out, stock, working capital).
- What HUFT has published: When I checked, its website listed franchise links but no investment terms. So treat every number you see, including the ones here, as an estimate until HUFT gives you its terms in writing.
- Reported franchise fee: about ₹5 lakh (one site says ₹5 to 7 lakh).
- Reported store size: 700 to 1,200 sq ft.
- Reported payback: 12 to 18 months. No source for this, so test it yourself (there's a worksheet below).
- The market: growing, with sizes quoted anywhere from about $3.6 billion to $9 billion depending on who's counting.

Does HUFT really offer franchises?
HUFT's website shows "HUFT Franchise" and "Become a Franchisee" links, so there's an official route. What I couldn't find was a page spelling out investment, eligibility or the model.
That matters because of how scams work in Indian franchising. A "FOCO" or "guaranteed return" pitch for a famous brand often comes from a broker, not the brand. If you want the model basics first, our guide to FOCO, FOFO, COCO and COFO explains them.
Before you share any documents or money:
- Start from the https://headsupfortails.com/pages/about-us, and use its franchise link. Don't start from an ad or a WhatsApp forward.
- Ask who the franchisor is (Earth Paws Private Limited, or another entity) and verify it on the MCA portal.
- Ask who owns the trademark and what you're actually licensed to use.
- Pay nothing to anyone who isn't HUFT's own team.
One more thing worth knowing as an investor: Entrackr's FY23 report describes Earth Paws as the Indian master franchisee in HUFT's combined financials. So ask exactly which entity you'd sign with, and what sits above it.
Budget it by bucket
Ask HUFT to fill in every row. If they can't, that tells you something.

Is GST extra on fees and royalty? Which local licences apply? |
Royalty, margin, and the one number that matters
FRANticc reports no percentage royalty, with franchisees keeping the product margin, and a gross margin band of 40 to 55%. Two other sites don't mention royalty at all.
If that's right, the real fee is hidden inside the price you pay HUFT for stock. So ask: what's my buying price versus the shelf price, on a typical basket? That one answer tells you more than any headline percentage.
The industry: pet care in India
India's pet economy is growing, but the size depends heavily on who's counting.

Redseer (via India Briefing) |
About $3.6 billion in 2024, expected to double by 2028 |

$8.6 billion in 2025, $9.2 billion in 2026, about 5% growth a year to 2034 |

Research and Markets (via Dogster) |
About ₹7,500 crore by 2026 |
Older outlook |
Those numbers don't match because definitions and dates differ, and growth rates range from roughly 5% to 20%. For an investor, the safe reading is direction, not decimals: demand is rising, and nobody agrees on the pace.
What's pushing it:
- More pets in cities. One estimate puts India at about 100 million pets, with roughly 30 million in urban homes (India Briefing, citing Livemint).
- Premiumisation. Owners are spending more on food, wellness, grooming and accessories, treating pets as family.
- Smaller households and rising incomes among younger urban buyers.

A HUFT franchise may suit you if... |
Be careful if... |
|
A first-time investor with ₹50 lakh+ |
You can run a store daily or hire a good manager |
You want passive income |
|
A retail operator |
You know premium retail and can hold stock |
You need fast payback on thin sales |
|
An investor in a metro or Tier 1 catchment |
Your area has dense, higher-income pet owners |
Your city is price-driven |
|
Looking for a hands-off investment |
(HUFT hasn't published a hands-off model I could verify) |
Anyone pitches you "FOCO" or guaranteed returns |
Risks, plainly
- Opaque terms. Costs, royalty and margins aren't published, and third-party figures conflict.
- Channel overlap. The brand sells online too. Ask how your territory is protected.
- Inventory risk. Premium stock sitting unsold is a cost. Ask about returns and buy-back.
- Location dependence. Premium pet retail does best where there are affluent, dense catchments.
- Skilled staff. Grooming and spa services need trained people, and they're hard to keep.
- Brand economics. Large losses in FY23 mean the franchisor's priorities may shift as it chases growth.

Ask HUFT before you sign
- Total investment, itemised, in writing. What's in and what's out?
- Is there a royalty? If not, what's my buying price versus shelf price?
- Territory: what protects me from the brand's own online sales and nearby stores?
- Real monthly sales and margins from comparable stores. Can I speak to 3 to 5 current franchisees?
- How many stores are company-owned versus franchised? How many have closed?
- Inventory: minimum orders, returns, buy-back at exit.
- Term, renewal, exit, and what happens to my deposit.
- Is GST charged on fees, and which local licences do I need?
The bottom line
HUFT is one of the better-known premium pet brands in India, in a category that's growing and attracting serious capital. That's the good news.
The honest caveat is that its franchise terms aren't published, so the cost numbers online are estimates, the payback claims are unsourced, and you can't judge the real economics from outside.
- Budget ₹45 to 70 lakh as a planning range until HUFT gives you its own figures.
- Trust nothing you can't verify from HUFT's own team, in writing.
- Test the 12 to 18 month payback with your own numbers and real store data.
- Skip it if you want passive returns, because I couldn't verify a hands-off model.
If the answers check out, it can be a solid investment. If they don't, there are other pet-care chains to compare.
FAQ
How much does a Heads Up For Tails franchise cost in India?
HUFT hasn't published official figures that I could find. Third-party sites report about ₹30 to 67 lakh all-in, with a franchise fee of around ₹5 lakh. Confirm the itemised cost with HUFT before you commit.
Does HUFT charge a royalty?
One third-party source says no percentage royalty, with franchisees keeping the product margin. Others don't say. Ask HUFT what you pay for stock versus the shelf price.
How much space do I need for a HUFT store?
Third-party listings say 700 to 1,200 sq ft, in a high-footfall location.
Is a HUFT franchise FOFO or FOCO?
One listing calls it FOFO (you fund and run it). I couldn't verify this with HUFT. Be wary of anyone offering a passive FOCO-style deal.
Is a HUFT franchise profitable?
Not verified. Third-party sites mention 12 to 18 months payback and 25 to 40% margins without sources. Ask for real store data and test the numbers yourself.
Is the pet industry growing in India?
Yes, though estimates vary widely. Redseer put the market at about $3.6 billion in 2024 and expects it to double by 2028, while IMARC's figures for pet care products are higher with slower growth.
How do I apply for a HUFT franchise?
Use the franchise link on HUFT's official website, and avoid brokers or anyone asking for a token amount.
